Mirza Sakit translated by Murad Jalilov and Kevin Rabas

[THE NIGHTINGALE IS PLUCKING OUT ITS FEATHERS.]

by Mirza Sakit
Translated from Azerbaijani by Murad Jalilov and Kevin Rabas

The nightingale is plucking out its feathers.
So what if it pulls them all out?
I bought you a flower. You said it had faded.
It fades. So what?

Are you done judging me
or with your jealousy tests?
It’s just two kisses on the cheek.
So what?

At night, you set two shot glasses at our table.
I was going to drink, but you pulled a frown
and poured just a splash of wine.
So what if the glass was full?
Hug me. Tell me a riddle,
and let me unlock its meaning.
You stayed with me three nights.
So what?

Bülbül bağda saçın yolub,
Yolanda nolacaqdı ki
Gül almışdım, dedin solub,
Solanda nolacaqdı ki

Qurtarmadın qınağından,
O qısqanclıq sınağından
Bir cüt öpüş yanağından,
Alanda nolacaqdı ki

Gecə vaxtı qədəh düzdün,
İçəcəkdim dodaq büzdün
Bir qurtumluq şərab süzdün,
Dolanda nolacaqdı ki

Gir qoynuma de tapmaca,
Qıfılbəndin Mirzə aça
Üç gecəlik yanımdaca,
Qalanda nolacaqdı ki…
